FUTURE HERITAGE – CORE COURSE FS24
Prof. Dr. Silke Langenberg
For the responsible conversion and further development of existing buildings, knowledge of monument theory positions and the fundamentals of practical monument conservation is necessary. These are taught as part of the core subject on the basis of selected writings and discussed in connection with various guest contributions.
In the spring semester 2024, the course is dedicated to tangible objects and intangible heritage assets of minorities, marginalized groups and people without a lobby and examines inventories at federal, cantonal and municipal level. In addition to the preservation of already designated sites, the selection and inventorying of future protected objects is one of the core tasks of monument preservation and the federal government. The result of this course is an individually created, written inventory text that is entered into a Future Heritage database.
In the lecture, theoretical positions on heritage conservation and the basics of practical heritage conservation are taught. In addition to active participation in the discussions, students are required to deal with a topic or object of their own choice in order to develop and justify their own position. The aim is in particular to promote communication skills and a culture of discussion.
