S AM THE SWISS ARCHITECTURE MUSEUM
The place for architecture – for reflection, debate and exploration. The S AM Swiss Architecture Museum is the only architecture museum in Switzerland. As a themed museum, it is dedicated to communicating architecture and building culture in the fields of civil engineering and architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and urban planning, taking into account the interfaces with the humanities and arts. S AM’s exhibitions, publications and events focus on architecture and building culture from the 20th and 21st centuries and their communication along two program axes:
‘History and the Present in Switzerland’: thematic or monographic research projects that are created in cooperation with the architecture collections of the universities ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne and Università della Svizzera Italiana or developed in collaboration with contemporary architecture producers. ‘Learning from …’: addresses phenomena of globalized architectural production and their impact on building culture, especially in Switzerland.
Smaller studio exhibitions – designed as an interdisciplinary format – also allow the S AM to react quickly to the current architectural discourse. All exhibitions are multi-layered and appeal to interested laypeople and professionals alike. The varied exhibition program is complemented by events: Architecture, city and exhibition tours, discussions, work lectures, workshops and symposia – for adults, students, schoolchildren and children.
The content of the exhibitions is reflected and supplemented by guided tours, panel discussions, talks, workshops, work lectures and the accompanying publications from the S AM series.
In addition to the exhibitions, S AM also acts as a specialist exchange and networking platform.
