SWISS CULTURAL HERITAGE NETWORK
The National Information Centre for Cultural Heritage (NIKE) is now called the Swiss Cultural Heritage Network. Over almost forty years, the NIKE has developed from an information centre into a strong network.
The Swiss Cultural Heritage Network is the national association for the exchange of ideas, networking and political work relating to cultural heritage in Switzerland. The network brings together 45 professional associations and organisations and is actively committed to the protection, maintenance and further development of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
The foundation was laid by the National Research Programme ‘Methods for Conservation of Objects of Cultural Value’ (NRP 16). The ‘National Information Centre for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage’ was established in 1986 as part of this research programme. Since 1994, the NIKE, now the Cultural Heritage Network Switzerland, has coordinated the European Heritage Days in Switzerland.
