NMB NEW MUSEUM BIEL
The NMB Neues Museum Biel was created in 2012 from the merger of the two museums Schwab and Neuhaus. The three-part museum for history, art and archaeology presents the multifaceted cultural history of the Biel-Seeland and Bernese Jura region from prehistoric times to the present day. Various permanent exhibitions are dedicated to the origins of human cultures in the Dreiseen region, the watchmaking and industrial city of Biel (19th and 20th centuries), bourgeois living culture in the 19th century, the work of Karl and Robert Walser and the Roberts dynasty of painters.
The museum is consistently run in two languages. All communication and exhibition texts are bilingual in German and French.
In 2022/23, the NMB presented the special exhibition “We, the Saisonniers … 1931-2022 / Nous, saisonniers, saisonnières… 1931-2022” and carried out an extensive participatory supporting program. The Saisonniers regulars’ tables, the “Day of Remembrance” (guided tours by migrants in 17 languages) and the participatory city tour “Biel/Bienne of the Saisonniers” are worth mentioning.
